Is age a factor when considering dental implants?

Age is less of a factor in determining candidacy for dental implants than is your general and dental health. If you are in your 60s, 70s, or 80s, in good overall health, and have sufficient healthy bone structure to support a dental implant, it is safe for you to have the procedure.

If you have oral health concerns such as periodontal (gum) disease or tooth decay, our dentists may recommend treating those conditions before proceeding with dental implants. However, if you can successfully address those conditions, it shouldn't prevent you from getting dental implants.

Are You Lacking Healthy Bone Structure?

Many patients are steered away from dental implants due to bone loss from gum disease or denture wear. However, our dentists may recommend a bone grafting procedure to rebuild your jawbone to support successful dental implants.

We can perform a bone grafting procedure here at our Scarborough dental clinic if it's determined to be beneficial for you. Our dentists take natural or synthetic bone material and add it to your jawbone, where it integrates and fuses over time, rebuilding the bone structure. After that process, we can then place a dental implant and expect excellent results.
